Chinese toy manufacturer CCSTOYS has officially announced the latest entry in its MORTAL MIND alloy action figure series: the "Mazinkaiser SKL (Thrash Metal Edition)" from the OVA of the same name. This item is a limited release, available exclusively through official channels such as CCS CLUB.
Released in 2011, the OVA "Mazinkaiser SKL" breaks away from previous Mazinkaiser settings, introducing a fresh cast, new mecha designs, and an original story. The plot follows the Skull Force, a combat unit under the WSO, as they intervene in a three-way power struggle on Machine Island, siding with the Aira Army against the Garan and Kiba forces. Piloted by the duo of Ken Kaido and Ryo Magami, who famously declare "We are hell!", the super robot Mazinkaiser SKL possesses power that surpasses both demons and gods. Its design is heavily infused with skull motifs and it wields two distinct armaments: the massive, extendable "Ganzanto" greatsword and the dual "Breast Triggers," pistols that can combine into a giant axe. These weapons correspond to Ken Kaido's expertise in close-quarters combat and Ryo Magami's unparalleled marksmanship.
The "MORTAL MIND Mazinkaiser SKL (Thrash Metal Edition)" is a recolored version of the previous release. The entire figure has been updated with a new paint scheme featuring mirror-finish blue-black, crimson gold, clear red, and metallic red, giving it a more vibrant and brilliant look reminiscent of its anime appearance. Aside from the updated product name on the display base, the accessories are identical to the previous version but have been recolored to match the new body. For instance, the "Inferno Blaster" special effect part is now purple, and the wing membranes of the "Wingle" backpack unit feature a more vivid red.
The figure's overall sculpt builds upon the original design, adding a wealth of original details. Standing at an impressive 25 cm tall, it captures the imposing presence of a machine that transcends gods and demons. Constructed from a combination of plastic and a die-cast alloy frame, the figure boasts a sharp and menacing form. Multiple battle-damaged capes and chain accessories can be attached to various points on the body, perfectly recreating its wild image from the source material. The SKL's signature feature is its versatile weaponry that can switch between ranged and melee modes. The set includes its iconic Ganzanto, a sword nearly as large as the figure itself, and the Breast Triggers, which detach from the chest and can be reconfigured into their battle-axe mode with alternate parts.
The back of the figure can combine with the massive wings detached from the "Wingle" support craft. Furthermore, CCSTOYS has included an original armament: a segmented whip sword. This weapon can either be wielded in hand or connected to the wings like a tail, creating a silhouette even more demonic and intense than the original design. The set also comes with a skull effect part for the chest to replicate the "Inferno Blaster" finishing move. Additionally, the "Skull Pilder" head unit can transform into its flight mode without any parts-swapping, and an alternate battle-damaged head part is also included.
