How many more sequels the "Toy Story" franchise needs has long been a question for fans. Many believed the third installment was the perfect conclusion, but Pixar followed up with two more, with the latest set to premiere this June. Andrew Stanton, director of the "Finding Nemo" series, who took over helming this installment, previously declared that no one could stop the franchise from continuing its expansion.

This morning, Entertainment Weekly (EW) unveiled its "Toy Story 5" cover story, featuring interviews with several key creative personnel. During his interview, Stanton further estimated how many more "Toy Story" films could be made. He believes that if Pixar's internal team dedicates about two months to brainstorming the intricate details of a toy's lifecycle, they could unearth enough material for two more "Toy Story" films. However, these new stories might not center on the current toy owner, Bonnie, but instead focus on other characters.

Stanton stated, "That's why I feel this franchise can continue to evolve." He also emphasized that even if he isn't the director, the "Toy Story" franchise can still thrive. Stanton noted that he expects to be invited to consult on Pixar films "until he's in a rocking chair," adding, "And I always have strong feelings about this series; perhaps that's the best way for me to leave my mark at Pixar — by passing on the craft to others."
