Some kits just grab you the moment you see them, and this one definitely falls into that category. This Evangelion Unit-01, with its incredibly dynamic pose design and AT Field effect parts, exudes a strong sense of artistry from the box art to the instruction manual. You can truly feel the sculptor's passion, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have acquired and built it.
For this custom paint job, I started with the concept of combining a lightbox with the AT Field effects, integrating additional lighting components and other iconic Evangelion elements. Due to not thoroughly reading the instructions, I ended up adding an extra reinforcement part designed with the NERV logo. I also incorporated "EMERGENCY" on the front and recreated the in-show red and black color scheme. The main body's paint scheme emphasizes a strong anime aesthetic to complement the prototype's wild, dynamic pose, finished with high-saturation colors throughout. While I initially considered using colored transparencies for the AT Field, I ultimately decided to hand-paint it.
I'm extremely pleased with the effect when paired with lighting; the orange light intuitively captures its appearance from the anime, while RGB lighting reveals a completely different spectrum of colors. I hope everyone enjoys this custom paint job showcase!
