Following the release of the trailer for Pixar's upcoming animated film "Toy Story 5," a detail showing a "bald spot" on protagonist Woody's head has ignited widespread discussion online. Addressing the buzz, Tom Hanks, the voice of Woody, recently clarified in an interview that this isn't actual baldness but rather "wear and tear" accumulated over years of play, drawing significant fan attention to the character's evolving design.

Hanks elaborated that Woody's head is made of rubber, and the repeated friction from wearing his hat over many years naturally leads to such deterioration. "He's not a plastic model; he's made of fabric and stuffing, and over time, his appearance changes," Hanks stated. He added that this detail reflects the character's journey through the years, rather than just a simple aesthetic alteration.
Plot-wise, "Toy Story 5" will pick up after Woody's departure in "Toy Story 4." This time, he will reunite with Jessie and their friends to confront a new technological threat: a tablet computer named "Lili Board," which is gradually supplanting toys in the lives of their young owners. Through this premise, the film aims to depict the growing reliance of modern children on digital products.

The film is directed by Andrew Stanton, known for "Finding Nemo" and "WALL-E," and features the return of many original voice cast members. Additionally, the roles of Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head, originally voiced by the late Don Rickles and Estelle Harris, respectively, will be taken over by new voice actors.
"Toy Story 5" is slated for a North American release on June 19, 2026.
