The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, organizers of the Academy Awards, today announced several significant new Oscar regulations. For performance categories, actors can now be nominated for the same award with more than one film, provided each of their submitted works receives enough votes to rank among the top five contenders for nomination. Additionally, amidst the escalating controversy surrounding AI-generated actors and screenplays, the new rules explicitly state that only verified human actors and scripts written by humans are eligible for nomination.
Regarding the Best Casting award, the number of eligible recipients has been expanded from a maximum of two to three. For the Best Cinematography award, the preliminary shortlist for nominations will now consistently feature 20 films, an expansion from the previous range of 10 to 20.

The Best International Feature Film award (formerly Best Foreign Language Film) has seen the most extensive revisions. Previously, films vying for this award could only be selected by a country or local government body; however, a new pathway to eligibility has been added. Non-English language films can now automatically qualify for consideration if they win a Best Film category award at specific international film festivals recognized by the Academy. These approved festivals include: the Venice Film Festival, Berlin Film Festival, Busan International Film Festival, Cannes Film Festival, Sundance Film Festival (World Cinema Grand Jury Prize), and Toronto International Film Festival (Platform Prize).
Furthermore, nominated international films will no longer emphasize their country or region of origin; instead, only the creator will be credited, and the director will accept the award on behalf of the entire crew.
