Bank of America Analyst: 'Grand Theft Auto 6' Should Cost $80, Not $70, To Protect Industry Pricing

With "Grand Theft Auto 6" slated for a 2026 release, the game's pricing has become a major industry talking point. While Rockstar Games and parent company Take-Two have yet to announce an official price, Bank of America Global Research analyst Omar Dessouky recently suggested that "GTA 6" should be priced at $80, a $10 increase over the current $70 standard for AAA titles.

According to a Seeking Alpha report, Dessouky noted after attending the iicon conference that the gaming industry is widely perceived to be under pressure. He argued that if a title as highly anticipated as "GTA 6" still launches at $70, other companies will find it much harder to convince players to accept an $80 price point in the future. This could also impact publishers who have already adopted an $80 pricing strategy, citing Nintendo with "Mario Kart World" as an example.

Dessouky believes that as a major publisher and partner to many developers, Take-Two would benefit from "GTA 6" raising the industry's price benchmark, potentially opening up room for future AAA game pricing.

However, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick did not explicitly discuss "GTA 6"'s price at the previous iicon conference, instead emphasizing that consumers are willing to pay for value. He stated the key factor is whether players find the title itself sufficiently amazing and its price relatively reasonable. He also noted that, when accounting for inflation, game prices, which have largely remained between $60 and $70 for many years, are actually cheaper than they used to be.

The official pricing for "GTA 6" remains undisclosed. Industry observers anticipate Rockstar may launch a new marketing wave this summer, potentially revealing more information then. The title will first launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, with no PC version available on day one.
