Rockstar Games Under Fire: UK MPs Accuse 'GTA 6' Developer of Obstructing Legal Process in Dismissal Dispute

Rockstar Games, the developer behind "Grand Theft Auto VI," is once again facing scrutiny from UK politicians over an ongoing employee dismissal controversy. Three Scottish Labour Members of Parliament (MPs) have accused Rockstar of failing to cooperate transparently with an investigation into alleged "union-busting" tactics, claiming the company has obstructed legal proceedings with "silence and closed doors."

The controversy stems from Rockstar's dismissal of several employees in October 2025. At the time, widespread speculation suggested the company's actions might constitute union suppression. Rockstar, however, maintained that the employees were terminated due to serious misconduct. Subsequently, the Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain (IWGB), representing the affected staff, filed a legal complaint against Rockstar, noting that all dismissed individuals were union members. As the dispute escalated, over 200 employees at Rockstar North also signed a letter condemning the management's approach.

As the legal battle continues, the IWGB recently stated that Rockstar has failed to comply with basic disclosure requirements, refusing to provide full evidence and investigation reports, and denying employees the right to appeal. Chris Murray, Labour MP for Edinburgh East and Musselburgh, expressed that he has harbored doubts about Rockstar's handling and motives since his initial meeting with the affected employees.

Murray highlighted that some constituents not only lost their jobs and income, but some were even forced to leave the UK after their visa sponsorships were withdrawn. He also noted that affected individuals reported inconsistencies in Rockstar's stated reasons for dismissal throughout the process, emphasizing that the company must respond to the case with transparency and full cooperation, while also safeguarding employees' right to appeal.

Tracy Gilbert, Labour MP for Edinburgh North and Leith, also criticized Rockstar's refusal to adequately communicate with employees, their representatives, and the union during legal proceedings, calling it "extremely disappointing." She stressed that when employees demand fairness, transparency, and respect, they should not be met with "silence and closed doors" while their livelihoods and workplace rights are under threat.

Dr. Scott Arthur, Labour MP for Edinburgh South West, recalled visiting Rockstar with other MPs late last year, where they emphasized to senior management the importance of treating employees openly, fairly, and transparently. However, according to affected constituents, these principles do not appear to have been consistently applied in practice. He urged Rockstar to fully cooperate with any investigations into alleged union-busting and ensure that both dismissed and current employees are treated fairly.
