Having famously parodied Robert De Niro's "Taxi Driver" character in the first "Neighbors" film and later starring alongside him as a grandson in "Dirty Grandpa," Zac Efron is now set to take on another project with a significant connection to De Niro. Efron will star in a brand-new series remake of the 1987 detective thriller "Angel Heart," a film originally led by De Niro.

According to an exclusive report from Deadline, the new "Angel Heart" will be developed as a series, a joint production between A24 and HBO. Efron is attached to star and serve as an executive producer, while Academy Award-nominated screenwriter Zach Baylin, known for "King Richard" and "Creed III," will pen the script.

The series adaptation of "Angel Heart" will draw inspiration from both the original novel "Fallen Angel" and its sequel, "Angel’s Inferno." It centers on a down-on-his-luck New York paparazzo who makes a living by tracking down and photographing elusive individuals. When he is hired by a mysterious man to find a missing woman, his investigation soon uncovers a powerful network of elite figures and potentially supernatural forces attempting to cover up her disappearance.
