Spider-Man: Brand New Day Set Photos Hint at Hulk's Return; Tom Holland Teases Sitcom-Style Humor and Punisher Dynamic

Newly released set photos from "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" have ignited widespread discussion. From details in the images, Peter Parker appears to be repairing an inhibitor device used by Bruce Banner to control the Hulk, suggesting that the Hulk may have gone rogue in the film and Spider-Man will attempt to revert him from his Savage Hulk state back to Banner.

Recent Empire Magazine covers have shown Spider-Man's web-shooters emitting a mysterious green glow, coupled with merchandise mentioning "anti-gamma webs." This has led many to speculate that the Hulk could be a significant adversary, or even the primary threat, in the film. However, another theory suggests Peter might be using a similar device to suppress his own continuously evolving powers.

Furthermore, previously leaked photos of The Punisher alongside Sadie Sink's character have now been definitively compared. While the images were previously AI-upscaled, key details on Frank Castle's costume align perfectly with his officially revealed look, largely dispelling any remaining doubts among netizens about the authenticity of the leaked shots.

In a recent interview with Collider, Tom Holland discussed the dynamic between Spider-Man and The Punisher. He stated that the on-screen portrayal differs significantly from what was originally written in the script, crediting director Destin Daniel Cretton for giving the actors the freedom to improvise and create a unique chemistry. Holland even remarked that he wouldn't be surprised if Spider-Man and The Punisher became a regular duo in the future.

Regarding the film's humor, Holland mentioned that the director was very clear about when to inject humor and when not to, especially given Peter's relatively dark state in this movie. He also emphasized that the comedic elements lean more towards situational comedy rather than relying solely on punchlines.

"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" is set four years after the events of "Spider-Man: No Way Home," with Peter now an adult living alone after everyone has forgotten his existence. The film is scheduled to hit North American theaters on July 31, 2026.
