Glen Powell, the rising star who has been making waves in Hollywood, is a frequent collaborator with "Boyhood" director Richard Linklater. Their partnership began in 2016 with "Everybody Wants Some!" and has continued with "Apollo 10½: A Space Age Childhood" and "Hit Man."

Now, Deadline exclusively reports that Powell and Linklater have set their next project: a biopic about legendary baseball player Lou Gehrig. Powell is slated to star as Gehrig, with Linklater directing. Simon Rich, known for "An American Pickle," will pen the screenplay, and longtime "Saturday Night Live" producer Lorne Michaels is on board as a producer.

Lou Gehrig, often hailed as one of the greatest first basemen in Major League Baseball history, earned the nickname "The Iron Horse" for his remarkable durability. He dedicated his entire career to the New York Yankees until his diagnosis with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in 1939 forced his retirement. Gehrig passed away in 1941 at the age of 38. His life story was previously brought to the screen in the 1942 film "The Pride of the Yankees," making this the second cinematic adaptation. Inspirational biopics like this are often strong contenders during awards season, giving both Powell and Linklater a significant opportunity to vie for Oscar recognition.
