Universal Pictures' animation studio, Illumination, has been collaborating closely with Japanese gaming giant Nintendo in recent years, co-producing "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" series, which became a global box office phenomenon. The studio aims to further develop other Nintendo IPs, launching more adaptations and connecting an entire Nintendo Universe. However, Nintendo is clearly not the only gaming brand Universal intends to partner with, as the studio has now signed another deal to expand its cinematic blueprint.

As exclusively reported by Deadline, Universal has inked a deal with Atari to develop 10 films based on Atari's classic video games. The ten titles slated for adaptation include "Asteroids," "Adventure," "Berzerk," "Breakout," "Centipede," "Crystal Castles," "Millipede," "Missile Command," "Pong," and "Yars' Revenge."

One of these projects already has screenwriters attached, though the specific game being adapted has not yet been revealed. Matt Reilly and Carl Hampe are set to pen the script. Reilly previously served as a Universal executive before transitioning to screenwriting, while Hampe has a background in production, notably having produced "Hellboy."
