BANDAI HOBBY, the plastic model kit brand under Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS company, has announced a new collaboration product for its RG (Real Grade) Gunpla series. The "RG 1/144 RX-178 Gundam Mk-II (Keroro Specification)," a crossover between "Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam" and "Sgt. Frog," is slated for release in October 2026. The RG series is renowned for integrating intricate exterior armor, internal frames, interlocking armor, and cutting-edge technologies into 1/144 scale Gunpla kits.
In Universal Century 0087, the Earth-supremacist elite Federation Forces faction, the Titans, sought to assert their authority over the pro-space colony AEUG. They sidelined engineers with Zeon backgrounds and appointed Franklin Bidan, father of protagonist Kamille Bidan, to lead the development of the "RX-178 Gundam Mk-II," the successor to the "RX-78 Gundam" series. This mobile suit inherited the Gundam's iconic design and armament, built entirely with the latest contemporary technology. Notably, its "movable frame" significantly enhanced its mobility, expandability, and ease of maintenance.
The "RG 1/144 RX-178 Gundam Mk-II (Keroro Specification)" kit is a modified version of the previously released standard model. All exterior armor parts have been molded in green, yellow, and white to match Sgt. Frog's iconic colors, giving it a unique, frog-like aesthetic. The kit also includes original decals featuring Sgt. Frog illustrations and star emblems for various placements on the mobile suit. Furthermore, original creator Mine Yoshizaki has drawn brand-new full-color box art for this special release.
Other features largely remain consistent with the standard release. The mobile suit utilizes the integrated "Advanced MS Joint" movable inner frame, combined with precisely color-separated exterior armor parts, to perfectly recreate the body's intricate colors and striking proportions. It also boasts flexible articulation and interlocking armor mechanisms, allowing for dynamic and natural posing. Accessories include a Beam Rifle, Beam Saber, Hyper Bazooka, Shield, spare energy packs, and spare bazooka magazines, enabling the recreation of the head-mounted Vulcan Pod System and the attachment/detachment of various magazines.
