After five years in development since its initial announcement in 2021, "Blade Runner 2099," the first live-action spin-off series in the "Blade Runner" franchise, is finally set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video later this year. Today, Entertainment Weekly unveiled the first official stills from the highly anticipated show.
The series is set fifty years after "Blade Runner 2049." Silka Luisa, creator of the Apple TV+ series "Shining Girls," serves as writer and executive producer. Ridley Scott, director of the original "Blade Runner" film, returns as an executive producer, with his company Scott Free Productions continuing its involvement. The core cast includes "Euphoria" star Hunter Schafer, Academy Award winner Michelle Yeoh, and "Strike" lead Tom Burke.

Entertainment Weekly's report also revealed further plot details for "Blade Runner 2099." The story takes place not only fifty years after "Blade Runner 2049" but also after a new war erupted between replicants and humans during that half-century. The replicants emerged victorious, with the defeated humans now relegated to second-class citizens.
Michelle Yeoh co-stars as Olwyn, a replicant Blade Runner with only days left to live, who is hunting down a group of missing rogue replicants. Schafer plays Cora, Olwyn's human fugitive partner, who has spent most of her life evading Blade Runners. Now, she must not only collaborate with one but also impersonate a Blade Runner herself.
