Marvel's "Avengers: Secret Wars" Teases "Latverian Witch": Scarlet Witch Return Fuels Speculation, Other Candidates Emerge

Marvel Studios is gearing up for its highly anticipated Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC), where fans expect to receive official updates on "Avengers: Secret Wars". Ahead of the event, Marvel has already brought several props and costumes to the exhibition floor, including a mysterious outfit labeled "Latverian Witch," which immediately ignited fan speculation.

Given that Latveria is the home country of Doctor Doom, this witch is highly likely to have a close connection to the iconic villain.

External media outlets are speculating that the most prominent candidate for the "Latverian Witch" is Wanda Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch, whose fate remained uncertain after "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness". In the comics, Doctor Doom once exploited Wanda's vulnerable state to approach her, seeking to harness her reality-warping powers. Should the Marvel Cinematic Universe adopt a similar storyline, Wanda's chaos magic could become a crucial element for Doctor Doom to reshape the multiverse and create Battleworld.

Other potential candidates include Clea and Sylvie. Clea, Doctor Strange's current partner, might encounter Doctor Doom while investigating incursions, echoing the "Secret Wars" comic storyline where Doctor Strange reluctantly served Doom. Sylvie, a Loki variant, could be forced into allegiance or secretly infiltrate Doom's ranks.

Furthermore, Peggy Carter has been mentioned in some plot rumors, potentially appearing as an illusion or shapeshifter to influence Steve Rogers.

Marvel has yet to confirm the identity of the "Latverian Witch." However, the appearance of this costume strongly suggests that Doctor Doom's influence in "Avengers: Secret Wars" will extend beyond technological and political power, encompassing magic, the multiverse, and the return of several familiar characters.

"Avengers: Secret Wars" is slated for release on December 18, 2026.
