As "Spider-Man: Rebirth" approaches its release, Empire magazine recently compiled a list of "7 Must-Read Comics Before the Movie." Among them, alongside classics like "The Amazing Spider-Man #129," which featured the first team-up of Spider-Man and the Punisher, and 1982's "Marvel Fanfare #2," marking the debut of Man-Wolf, the list surprisingly also included 2008's "X-Men Origins: Jean Grey." This inclusion further amplifies speculation that Sadie Sink's mysterious role could indeed be Jean Grey.

The publication noted that Sink was seen in the trailer wearing a hoodie that echoed Jean Grey's classic green and yellow color scheme, with her character seemingly displaying telepathic or telekinetic abilities. The film also features William "Bill" Metzger, an anti-mutant activist from the comics, making the theory no longer solely based on Sink's red hair.
When Sink first joined the project, foreign media already speculated she might play Jean Grey, and her role has remained strictly under wraps until the film's release. Recent trailers also showed a shockwave sweeping through Manhattan, which fans compared to Jean Grey's psychic powers in "X-Men: Evolution." Foreign media also pointed out that Metzger's presence further strengthens the possibility of the film involving mutants.
Director Destin Daniel Cretton stated there were "very practical reasons" for keeping Sink's identity a secret, adding that audiences would be glad they didn't know beforehand. However, Tom Holland explicitly stated that "she is not in this movie," seemingly denying Jean Grey's appearance.
At this stage, Empire's recommendations should be viewed as media speculation based on trailer and comic clues, not official Marvel confirmation. Nevertheless, the convergence of multiple clues certainly makes the rumors of Sink playing Jean Grey harder to dismiss.
