Godzilla Minus Zero Trailer Confirms Godzilla Survived; Masami Nagasawa Joins New Kaiju Extermination Operation

Toho and GKIDS have unveiled a new trailer and additional cast members for Godzilla Minus Zero, Takashi Yamazaki’s sequel to the Academy Award-winning Godzilla Minus One. The trailer confirms from the outset that Godzilla was not completely destroyed in the previous film, while also previewing a new kaiju extermination operation.

Set in 1949, two years after the events of the first film, the sequel returns to the Shikishima family. As Japan rebuilds after the war and begins to reclaim a fragile peace, a new threat emerges.

Masami Nagasawa joins the cast as Makoto Aoyama, a genius weather forecaster assigned to the Disaster Response Bureau, while Jun Kunimura plays Dr. Ogata. Min Tanaka portrays the biologist Murakami, and Kou Maehara plays Akira Hagiwara, Professor Murakami’s assistant. Eita Okuno and Kai Inowaki also join the ensemble, while Kenji Mizuhashi returns as Kunio Tsuruno from the previous film.

Yamazaki returns as director, screenwriter, and VFX lead. Godzilla Minus Zero is also the first Japanese production Filmed For IMAX. It will make its world premiere as a Spotlight Gala selection at the 64th New York Film Festival on September 26, before opening in Japan on November 3, 2026, and in North America on November 6.
