During the "Nintendo Direct 2026.9.9" broadcast on September 9, 2026, SHUEISHA GAMES announced the upcoming release of Hoshin Engi: Gyakumei Joten, developed by Last Wonder.
This brand-new Roguelite action game is an adaptation of the classic and popular manga series "Hoshin Engi," and will tell a story set after the conclusion of the original manga. It's slated for a 2027 launch on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2.
"Hoshin Engi: Gyakumei Joten" is a Roguelite action game based on the "Hoshin Engi" manga, where players will explore dungeons that change with each entry. The official announcement also revealed that the game's story takes place after the events of the original manga.
The game features new illustrations drawn by Ryu Fujisaki, with popular characters like Taigong Wang, Sibuxiang, Yang Jian, Nezha, and Huang Tianhua making appearances. Players can deepen their bonds with these characters by talking to them at base camps and fighting alongside them in dungeons. These characters will also provide support during adventures.
The protagonist's partner, the Spirit Beast, will automatically defend and disrupt enemies on the ground. When mounted, players can utilize exclusive riding actions. Whether it's using speed for quick movement or striking at enemy weak points, the Spirit Beast will be a reliable companion.
Additionally, the crucial in-game items known as "Paopei" can be combined as "Main Paopei" and "Sub Paopei." Players can freely mix and match a wide variety of Paopei to enhance their team's combat power and advance through stages.
Upgrading Paopei also unlocks powerful evolution attacks. Furthermore, players can bring back "Essence" and "Materials" acquired during adventures to their base camp to strengthen the protagonist and their party.
The revealed trailer showcased an opening sequence featuring multiple characters from the original manga, alongside actual gameplay footage.
