Japanese collectibles maker PLEX has announced the latest release from the "Godzilla vs. Evangelion" collaboration: the "Retro Sofubi Evangelion Unit-01 'G' Awakening Form", scheduled to launch in July 2027.
The dream crossover was inspired by Hideaki Anno’s work on "Shin Godzilla," with the "Godzilla vs. Evangelion" project officially launching in 2016. Since then, the collaboration has produced a wide range of popular merchandise bringing Godzilla and the EVAs together. The pachinko machine "P Godzilla vs. Evangelion: G Cell Awakening" went even further with an original story merging both universes. After Evangelion Unit-01 is struck by Godzilla’s Atomic Breath, G Cells begin consuming its body and trigger a monstrous mutation. PLEX later brought this "Unit-01 'G' Awakening Form" to life through several highly sought-after collectibles.
The "Retro Sofubi Evangelion Unit-01 'G' Awakening Form" is a three-way collaboration between Japanese collectibles maker PLEX, Hong Kong sofubi brand Kaiju One, and Nakano subculture gallery Hakaba no Garou. Standing approximately 10.2 inches tall, the figure features squat retro sofubi proportions and a rounder silhouette, giving the fusion of a humanoid ultimate weapon and the King of Destruction an unexpectedly charming edge.
The sculpt captures Unit-01’s signature armor restraints alongside the rough Godzilla-like skin spreading across its mutated body. Torn, damaged textures create a convincing transition between the armor and exposed organic tissue. Rich paint applications reproduce the armor’s color blocking, the eyes, and the creature-like details inside the mouth. Its enormous dorsal fins combine translucent material with a fluorescent green gradient to suggest energy surging within. Swivel joints at the shoulders and hips also let collectors pose the figure charging forward in a berserk run.
