Nissin Foods is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its DONBEI instant noodle brand with a collaboration with Japanese publisher WANI BOOKS. The result is the “Extra-Large Fluffy Fried Tofu Cushion,” a super-sized take on the broth-soaked fried tofu pouch found in DONBEI Kitsune Udon. Measuring approximately 96 × 72 cm, it is roughly the size of 100 regular tofu pouches. It works as both a cushion and a small blanket you can drape over yourself. The suggested retail price is 5,000 yen, tax included, with release scheduled for December 24, 2026.
This is not the first time Nissin has transformed fried tofu into bedding. In 2024, the company held a giveaway for its “Super-Sized Fried Tofu and Tempura Plush Cushions,” with the fried tofu version billed as being equivalent in size to around 5,400 regular pieces. This time, however, fans can simply buy one as a book bonus. The cushion is printed with a golden fried tofu texture, complete with gently wrinkled edges. Throw the whole thing over your legs on the sofa, and you may start feeling like another topping in a bowl of DONBEI.
Along with the giant fried tofu cushion, the package includes a booklet exploring what makes DONBEI so delicious, plus a selection of creative recipes. The cushion has a thick, fluffy design that makes it perfect for hugging or using as a mini blanket during a nap. Since it ships in compressed packaging, it takes about a week after opening to expand fully. Once your enormous tofu pouch has regained its fluffiness, you can wrap yourself up and settle into the sofa in comfort.
