Japanese statue maker Prime 1 Studio is expanding its Ultimate Diorama Masterline series with a new release based on "Godzilla Minus One." The massive Godzilla vs. Shinsei-maru diorama statue recreates the harrowing sequence in which Godzilla pursues the small minesweeping vessel Shinsei-maru through the waters near the Ogasawara Islands. Measuring approximately 38.6 inches wide, 19.3 inches tall, and 21.3 inches deep, the scene captures the staggering size difference between Godzilla and the boat. Limited to 350 pieces, the statue is priced at $1,899 and scheduled to ship between March and June 2028.
While the previously covered Godzilla (2023) bust depicted Godzilla laying waste to Ginza, this release shifts the spotlight to the film’s early ocean chase. Godzilla’s colossal body surges beneath the waves as he closes in on the Shinsei-maru, forcing Koichi Shikishima and the crew to flee while desperately fighting back with a machine gun and naval mines. The diorama even recreates the enormous wake left behind as the boat makes a high-speed turn, instantly recalling one of the movie’s most nerve-racking sequences.
From the moisture around the eyes and rough skin texture to the shifting coloration above and below the waterline, the Godzilla sculpt is packed with finely rendered detail. An abundance of splashing water and bubbles works with the creature’s dynamic pose to sell the illusion of rapid underwater movement. The Shinsei-maru features a weathered wooden hull, a fully realized crew, and detailed weaponry, while steep rock formations can be seen across the seafloor below. The set also includes a freely positionable movie title display plaque. The Bonus Version adds an exclusive deep-sea fish display piece, depicting the creature’s grotesquely distorted body after rapid decompression and bringing an extra sense of dread to the moments before Godzilla closes in.
