TAKARA TOMY toy brand T-ARTS has revealed a new capsule toy collection called "Vegetable Chess." The lineup features 12 pieces in all, priced at 400 yen per pull with tax included, and is scheduled to roll out in November 2026.

Each "Vegetable Chess" capsule toy stands approximately 4.1 to 7.2 cm tall. The 12-piece lineup consists of black and white versions of six designs: Tomato Pawn, Corn Rook, Carrot Knight, Asparagus Bishop, May Queen Potato, and Broccoli King. Every vegetable is sculpted with impressively realistic detail, and collectors who assemble a full set of 32 pieces can stage a genuine chess match with these produce-aisle warriors.

The two sides are distinguished by their different base colors, while each vegetable was cleverly matched to its corresponding chess piece. The tomato, corn, and asparagus naturally lend themselves to their respective silhouettes, while the horse-shaped carrot is an obvious nod to the vegetable's association with horses. The May Queen Potato gets its royal role from May Queen, a common potato variety in Japan. Broccoli, meanwhile, is often called the "king of vegetables" in Japan because of its rich nutritional value and crown-like appearance, making it the perfect choice for the king. This wonderfully ridiculous collection is going to be dangerously tempting to complete!
