Directed by Takashi Yamazaki, the latest Godzilla movie, Godzilla -0.0, opened across Japan on November 3—Godzilla Day. Theaters were packed from day one, making the anticipation for this sequel impossible to miss.
An official announcement on November 4 confirmed that the film had earned ¥910 million on its opening day, setting a new Japanese box-office record for a live-action movie. It also drew more than 590,000 moviegoers on its first day.

Compared with its predecessor, Godzilla Minus One—which opened on November 3, 2023, and finished with ¥7.65 billion at the Japanese box office—the sequel earned more than 201% of its opening-day gross. According to figures from Kogyo Tsushinsha, Godzilla -0.0 now holds Japan’s highest single-day opening gross for any live-action movie, whether domestic or international.
The sequel brings back the previous film’s team and has already earned strong word of mouth in Japan. Several media outlets are now watching to see whether it can become the first Godzilla movie to cross ¥10 billion at the Japanese box office. With theaters packed nationwide, the scale of the franchise fandom’s anticipation is clear.

Godzilla -0.0 opens in Taiwan on November 6, giving local audiences their chance to see what kind of big-screen destruction the King of the Monsters has in store this time.
