Hollywood star Nicolas Cage recently revealed at L.A. Comic Con that he has been living out of hotels since evacuating his Malibu home in September 2026 after a massive sinkhole opened nearby. During a Halloween panel, he joked that he was “a little bit homeless” and said the ordeal meant he could not welcome trick-or-treaters at home as usual.

On September 8, 2026, a massive sinkhole suddenly opened near the driveway of Cage’s Malibu mansion. Measuring roughly 25 feet (7.6 meters) deep and 30 by 60 feet (9.1 by 18.3 meters) across, the collapse prompted emergency evacuations at 31 nearby properties, including Cage’s home. Authorities have yet to confirm the cause, though the sinkhole may have been linked to huge swells and coastal flooding generated by Hurricane Marie in early September.
According to Variety, Cage addressed his living situation while appearing at L.A. Comic Con on October 31. “I’m a little bit homeless right now,” he said. “Something went a little wrong with my house in Malibu, so I’ve basically been staying in hotels.” Despite the disruption, the actor maintained a lighthearted tone while discussing his Halloween plans.

“I won’t get to enjoy having kids come to the house for trick-or-treating tonight like I normally do,” Cage said. Instead, he planned to take his daughter trick-or-treating in Santa Monica before watching the horror classic “The Shining” after she went to bed. Cage also noted that director Stanley Kubrick was once nominated for Worst Director at the Razzie Awards for the film, adding, “He made that movie too well.”
