The official "Mobile Suit Gundam" model kit flagship store, "GUNDAM BASE," has announced its latest limited-edition product: the "MGEX 1/100 Unicorn Gundam Ver.TWC," set to release in December 2020. This special kit is themed after the iconic life-sized Unicorn Gundam statue in Odaiba, Tokyo.
The original "MGEX (MASTER GRADE EXTREME)" Unicorn Gundam kit, the first entry in the series, launched in September 2020. It was supervised by mechanical designer Hajime Katoki and features entirely new molds. The distinctive Destroy Mode transformation mechanism has been completely redesigned, offering a more intuitive and fluid conversion compared to previous MG versions.
A standout feature of the MGEX Unicorn Gundam is its innovative, space-saving, and flexible "LED sheet." This thin LED sheet is integrated into the 1/100 scale inner frame and shields. When connected to a power source in the display base, it illuminates the transparent psychoframe, allowing it to glow in both red and green with adjustable intensity, bringing together transformation, lighting, color changes, and articulation in one model.
The limited-edition "MGEX 1/100 Unicorn Gundam Ver.TWC" specifically replicates the Odaiba life-sized Unicorn Gundam statue. It includes newly molded backpack vernier parts, water slide decals that match the statue's unique markings, and exclusive packaging. The rest of the kit's contents are identical to the standard release. Armaments include three shields, six beam Gatling guns, a beam rifle, and a Hyper Bazooka. The included display stand allows for dynamic poses, including recreating the awakened state with shield funnels!
