Japanese toy company Kenelephant (ケンエレファント) is set to release a new capsule toy collection in November 2021, featuring characters from Japanese picture book author Keiko Shibata's popular series, "The Bread Thief" (パンどろぼう)! The complete set includes 5 different figures, with pricing yet to be announced.
In Keiko Shibata's "The Bread Thief" stories, the titular character is, as the name suggests, a mischievous little thief specializing in stealing delicious bread. He employs various hilarious yet surprisingly effective (or questionable?) tricks to snatch his treats. One day, he sneaks into a bakery overflowing with all sorts of bread. Following his usual routine, he snags a loaf, only to discover it's absolutely dreadful! Outraged, he storms back to confront the baker (the nerve!). This new capsule toy series brings that whimsical story to life, meticulously sculpting the Bread Thief in his various poses from the picture book, perfectly capturing Keiko Shibata's humorous and endearing art style in exquisite detail.
The "Kenelephant The Bread Thief Capsule Toy" collection features five distinct figures: the Bread Thief "Running Away" (にげあし) with a baguette, muttering "Hehe, Gotcha!" (しめしめ) while holding binoculars, performing an "Invisibility Technique" (かくれみのじゅつ), clutching his "Beloved Bread" (いとしのパン) — a baguette he absolutely adores, and finally, the Bread Thief reacting with disgust to a bite of "Gross!" (まずい) bread. As a special "Lucky Item" for this set, collectors can also find an adorable mini bread tray! Do note that while the official images show two figures with small bread accessories, each capsule will only include one type of small bread.
