Bow Before the Prince! MODEROID Saikyo Robo Daioja

Japan's GOOD SMILE COMPANY's plastic model kit series "MODEROID" will release a plastic model kit of the protagonist mecha "Daioja" (ダイオージャ) from the classic 80s giant robot anime series 《Saikyo Robo Daioja》! Scheduled for release in January 2023.

The work 《Saikyo Robo Daioja》 (最強ロボ ダイオージャ), produced by Sunrise (SUNRISE), first aired on Nagoya TV in January 1981, with a total of 50 episodes. Although this work is themed around super robots, its story structure and elements are very similar to the classic Japanese historical drama 《Mito Komon》. The story primarily narrates how Prince Mito (ミト) of the Kingdom of Edon (エドン国), which presides over 52 planets in the galaxy, must embark on an inspection tour to inherit the throne. Thus, the prince and two retainers disguise themselves as commoners and travel to the surrounding 51 planets. When they encounter injustice along the way, they reveal their true identities, summon the robot to battle, and eradicate evil.

The "Daioja," piloted by the prince and his two companions, is formed by the combination of three machines: the Ace Redder (エースレッダー) piloted by the prince, the Aoida (アオイダー), and the Cobaruta (コバルター). When the three individual machines cannot defeat the enemy, the prince shouts "Cross Tri-Angle!" (クロス・トライアングル), and the three machines then transform and combine to form Daioja. Its appearance is somewhat similar to Titan 3, the robot from another mecha work, 《Invincible Steel Man Daitarn 3》 (無敵鋼人ダイターン3). It also appeared in the game 《Super Robot Wars GC》.

This Daioja released by Moderoid faithfully recreates Daioja's combination and separation states from the original work. When combined, it stands approximately 18 cm tall and includes interchangeable hand parts, as well as weapon parts such as the Thunder Sword, spear, and shield. The parts separation and color division are also very detailed, allowing for an excellent appearance even with a simple straight build.
