During today's new product exhibition event, "ROBOT FIGURES LAUNCH!", held by TAMASHII NATIONS, the collector's toy division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Company, the latest METAL BUILD series product, the "Hi-Nu Gundam Hyper Mega Bazooka Launcher", was unveiled for the first time, with an anticipated release in December 2022.
The Hyper Mega Bazooka Launcher first appeared in the novel version of "Char's Counterattack: Beltorchika's Children", where it was an ultra-large beam weapon used by the Earth Federation Forces' Londo Bell unit. It allowed Amuro's Hi-Nu Gundam to aim and fire a MEGA particle cannon with power surpassing that of a battleship. In the novel, it was used to destroy the nuclear propulsion engine pushing Axis towards Earth, even sinking a Musaka-class battleship, known as the "Shield of Axis," with a single shot. However, due to its immense size, it could not be carried and was normally stored in the Londo Bell's Ra Cailum battleship, requiring power from the entire battleship for use.
The "METAL BUILD Hi-Nu Gundam Hyper Mega Bazooka Launcher" boasts an impressive maximum length of 45 cm. It continues the MB style with detailed mechanical structures such as optical sights and capacitors, and features a heavy, metallic-textured paint finish and tampo printing. While its appearance seems familiar, it presents a distinctly different design, incorporating an original transformation mechanism unique to the MB series. In its [Diffusion Firing Mode], the barrel resembles the version previously designed by Takayuki Yanase. After transformation, the [Convergent Firing Mode] extends into a slender barrel, similar to its appearance in the "Gundam EXTREME VS." series, cleverly combining the aesthetics of both versions.
According to the METAL BUILD original setting, the [Diffusion Firing Mode] features a shorter barrel and a turret covered by armor, capable of firing MEGA particle cannons over a wide area. The transformed [Convergent Firing Mode] retains its original function from the novel, with the armor folding back and the barrel extending, concentrating energy into a single beam cannon with powerful penetration and destructive force, used to stop the asteroid Axis from colliding with Earth.
Furthermore, the power supply method has been reinterpreted, departing from the novel's setting and adjusted to suit the METAL BUILD series' capabilities. In the absence of a connectable battleship product, a new energy supply device resembling a handbag has been designed. Accessories include a cable part to connect with the main bazooka body, and a shield styled to match the Hyper Mega Bazooka Launcher, a design commonly seen in past RG and other products. This can be used as an alternative if one is not accustomed to the original spotted camouflage design.
