Japanese model manufacturer ART SPIRITS recently announced a new sub-series, "Gekizo EX," for its tokusatsu monster-themed model series "Gekizo." The first product in this new line will feature the highly popular monster "Biollante" from "Godzilla vs. Biollante," scheduled for release in April 2023.
Biollante made its debut in the 1989 film "Godzilla vs. Biollante." It is one of the few monsters in the Godzilla series that was accidentally created by humans, and it is also notable for being the largest in size and requiring the most human operators for its portrayal. In the story, Dr. Genichiro Shiragami, a leading authority in genetic engineering, combined his deceased daughter's cells with her favorite rose to commemorate her. However, when the rose was on the verge of wilting, Dr. Shiragami further incorporated Godzilla's cells, which possess self-regenerative capabilities. This caused the rose to continuously evolve, transforming into the ferocious monster "Biollante."
The "Gekizo EX Biollante" maintains the same approximate 10 cm scale as previous releases in the "Gekizo" series. However, the "EX" in its name signifies a superior level of sculpting and paintwork. It meticulously captures Biollante's ferocious head sculpt with its mouth full of dense, sharp teeth, the high-density back details resembling Godzilla's dorsal fins fused with ferns, and the abdominal core encased in a net-like structure. Even each of the thick tentacles features a snarling, toothy mouth sculpt, thoroughly recreating Biollante's ultimate menacing presence and intricate sculptural beauty!
