The 'ROBOT魂' series of robot-themed articulated finished products, released by TAMASHII NATIONS, the collectible toy division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Co., Ltd., today announced the latest product from "Mobile Suit Gundam," the "ROBOT魂 Gouf & Dodai YS Set ver. A.N.I.M.E. Real Type Color," scheduled for release on November 15, 2022. This product is a commemorative item for Bandai's official exhibition event, TAMASHII NATION 2022, and will later be available for lottery sale on PREMIUM BANDAI.
This product is based on the regular version released in 2016, with the part molding colors, paint colors, and body markings replaced with the Real Type Color version. This "Real Type Color" scheme was used by the original Gundam mechanical designer Kunio Okawara on the poster for the 1981 "Mobile Suit Gundam" movie. Unlike the toy-like vibrant colors in the anime, it adopts military-inspired paint colors such as dark green, sand yellow, and sea blue, combined with practical body markings. This design sparked a craze in the early 1980s.
The product changes the original blue Gouf to a combination of grass green, sand yellow, and black. The other specifications remain the same as the regular version, boasting a refined sculpt and flexible articulation that closely matches the anime's design. By detaching the arms and attaching battle-damaged parts, the famous arm-severing scene from the show can be recreated. Armaments include a Heat Saber, a Shield, and two lengths of Heat Rods. The Heat Rods are made with hot-press molding technology, allowing them to be bent into various shapes to recreate scenes where they entangle enemy weapons. The accessories also include a set of effect parts to reproduce the heat energy of the Heat Rod and the firing state of the five-barrel machine gun in the palm.
As for the bomber Dodai YS, it maintains a deep red tone but changes some gray areas to black and features body markings. The four landing gears on the underside of the fuselage are detachable, allowing for the recreation of its flight state with a dedicated stand, and the Gouf can stand on top of the fuselage. Effect parts can also be attached to the nose to recreate the powerful appearance of 8 missiles firing simultaneously.
