Issued by TAMASHII NATIONS, the collector's toy division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS company, the transforming alloy model 'HI-METAL R' series recently announced the latest product, 'VF-1J Armored Valkyrie (Hikaru Ichijo Custom) Revival Ver.', scheduled for release in May 2023, to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the anime 'Macross'.
The VF-1J Armored Valkyrie was developed to address issues such as the Valkyrie series' relatively weak armor during ground combat. It features a full-body weapon system for Battroid mode, with heavily reinforced armor providing high defensive capabilities across its entire body, and is equipped with high-speed armor-piercing projectile launchers on both arms and armor-piercing high-explosive grenades throughout its body. While significantly enhancing firepower and defense during ground combat, it is fixed in Battroid mode and cannot transform. To compensate, the various added armor parts also feature a separation mechanism, allowing for instantaneous jettisoning of the armor during combat when necessary.
The 'HI-METAL R VF-1J Armored Valkyrie (Hikaru Ichijo Custom) Revival Ver.' is a revision of the initial version released in 2015. In its armored configuration, all missile hatch covers feature deployment mechanisms, allowing for the recreation of dynamic missile launch scenes. It also includes new hand parts that closely match the TV version's non-sharp-edged design. All additional armor on the unit can be detached, and a head replacement part with a different color is used to recreate the Valkyrie (Hikaru Ichijo Custom) form.
In the Valkyrie (Hikaru Ichijo Custom) form, the precise three-stage transformation mechanism allows for the recreation of Fighter, Gerwalk, and Battroid modes. Aside from some differences in the molded color of the white armor, in Battroid mode, detail-up parts can be installed on the upper chest and left and right sides of the abdomen, enhancing the intricate sculpting and concealing the internal frame. In Fighter mode, replacement parts can be used to recreate the deployed landing gear state and the 12 AAM-1 missiles suspended under the main wings.
