2022 marks LEGO's 90th anniversary, with brand-new sets making a grand return in both the Castle and Classic Space themes! And in addition to the ICONS series' "10497 Galaxy Explorer" for Classic Space, another new, nostalgia-filled creation, the "40580 Blacktron Cruiser," has now appeared as a Gift With Purchase (GWP).
This set comprises a total of 356 pieces and is a redesigned homage to the 80s Classic Space set "6894 Invader." Built with more than double the pieces of its predecessor (164 pieces), the completed model measures an impressive 29 cm in length, making quite a statement. According to official images, this black, yellow, and red spacecraft can be divided into several sections and features play mechanisms such as deployable wings and an opening cockpit canopy. Other contents include a black astronaut minifigure with a smiling face, a brick-built Blacktron space robot, a metal detector, a wrench, and more. The outer packaging features an exciting retro design, making it an absolute must-have for collectors.
According to PROMOBRICKS, a well-known LEGO information website, this set is expected to be released as a Gift With Purchase (GWP) in January 2023. It will be available for free with purchases totaling €150 or more. Taiwanese release information has not yet been announced, so let's look forward to it.
