Renowned poster design and toy company MONDO's "Toho Soft Vinyl" collection series recently announced its latest product from Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla, the "SpaceGodzilla"! This is a limited edition of 400 units, which sold out extremely quickly, and is expected to ship in July 2023.
The 1994 film Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla (ゴジラvsスペースゴジラ) is the 21st installment in the Godzilla film series, telling the story of Godzilla defeating Mechagodzilla and taking Little Godzilla to live on Birth Island, only to be attacked by the descending "SpaceGodzilla"... This soft vinyl rendition of "SpaceGodzilla" stands approximately 9.5 inches (about 24 cm) tall. Unlike the original design which emphasized extremely muscular thighs, this version adopts a slightly chibi-style proportion for the overall physique. The head, torso, and tail sections are all more rounded, while the crystal-like structures on its shoulders remain incredibly striking. The substantial feel in hand is truly captivating!
Although crafted with a slightly cute proportion, the overall details are incredibly rich! Not only do the hard skin and the muscle sculpting on the chest and abdomen exhibit a strong sense of realism, but the crystallized structures on the back also boast an enhanced visual effect with increased sculptural density. For the coloring, this piece is presented in a Variant style, showcasing a glossy texture on the dark skin and chest/abdomen. There are also beautiful purplish-red gradients where the crystals connect to the skin, while the horns on the head and the fangs at the corners of the mouth are highlighted in yellow to emphasize and elevate the color contrast of the head – truly stunning! However, due to the limited quantity and shipping restrictions to the US and Canada only, collectors interested in acquiring this piece will need to put in extra effort.
