Japanese model manufacturer Kaiyodo (KAIYODO) recently announced that to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the classic robot anime "Gunbuster", they have decided to revive the masterpiece "Gunbuster" by the late mechanical sculptor Taku Sato in the 'MEGA SOFUBI' series, commercializing it at an imposing 50cm tall!

The prodigious mechanical sculptor Taku Sato, who garnered immense attention in the 1990s, held the authoritative and resounding title of "ROBO-shi" (Robot Master) at the time. In an era when mass production was not yet widespread and GK models were still mainstream, Sato, in his early twenties, sculpted numerous outstanding robot GK models for Kaiyodo, including those from "Gunbuster", "Neon Genesis Evangelion", "Gundam", "Godzilla", and more. Tragically, he passed away prematurely in 2006 due to illness, a great loss. This time, Kaiyodo is not only commemorating the 35th anniversary of "Gunbuster" but also paying tribute to this master who passed away too soon.

The prototype for "MEGA SOFUBI Gunbuster" originates from the "Gunbuster 1/600 Scale GK Model" released at Wonder Festival in July 1990, with Taku Sato serving as the sculptor. Its overall design is refined, sharp, and cool, perfectly capturing the colossal presence of Gunbuster from the anime. The MEGA SOFUBI faithfully preserves this sculpted form and recreates it as a massive 50cm tall soft vinyl model, featuring its iconic "GAINAX Stance"!
