To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the broadcast of "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED," Bandai officially invited the original Gundam designer, Kunio Okawara, to re-illustrate the two protagonist mobile suits, Freedom Gundam & Justice Gundam, in Real Type Color versions. In addition to the previously announced G-FRAME FA products, the finished product division TAMASHII NATIONS and the plastic model division BANDAI HOBBY have also separately teased METAL ROBOT Damashii and MG 1/100 Gunpla products.
The theme of these products, "Real Type Color," originates from the color scheme used by original Gundam mechanical designer Kunio Okawara on the 1981 "Mobile Suit Gundam" movie poster. Unlike the toy-like vibrant colors seen in the anime, this scheme employs practical military-inspired paint colors such as deep green, sand yellow, and sea blue, combined with functional fuselage markings. This style sparked a craze in the early 1980s, fostering the subsequent robust development of the "MSV" series. Coinciding with the 20th anniversary of "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED," Mr. Okawara has reinterpreted the Real Type Color scheme for the two protagonist mobile suits from the series.
Departing from the previous impressions of the blue-and-white Freedom and the red-toned Justice, Freedom is now given a low-visibility gray-white and deep green color scheme, reminiscent of an aerial combat machine, while Justice sports a cool blue camouflage. This provides a fresh image distinct from the original. Although product information has not yet been released, both mobile suits have previously been released in standard versions across both series, so a recolor using existing molds is naturally expected.
