Released by Japanese model manufacturer Kotobukiya, the brand-new series "ARTIST SUPPORT ITEM," designed for artists or aspiring artists, has received widespread acclaim from numerous creators since its announcement. However, the first product, the "Hand Model/Right Hand," in both white and gray versions, was initially sold exclusively through the Makuake crowdfunding project. The previous fundraising goal was 3 million Japanese Yen, but the final total amount reached an astonishing 148 million Japanese Yen, nearly 50 times the original target. This overwhelming success has prompted Kotobukiya to officially announce the general release of this product, scheduled for April 2024.
This "ARTIST SUPPORT ITEM Hand Model/Right Hand" was thoroughly supervised by animator Takahiro Kagami, known for drawing powerful card-drawing hand poses in anime works such as "Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters." It was produced by Kotobukiya's representative sculptor, Hajime Shirahige, who together created a beautiful "artistic hand" with human-like articulation. Made at a 1/1 scale, measuring approximately 21 cm from the tip of the middle finger to the wrist, the hand model features precise part segmentation and articulated joint design. Not only are all finger joints flexibly movable, but the palm, back of the hand, and wrist joints can also mimic human movements to the maximum extent. Details such as fingernails, skin wrinkles, and palm lines have also been meticulously crafted, making it an excellent reference tool for artists who wish to create natural and aesthetically pleasing hands.
Furthermore, the highly anticipated "ARTIST SUPPORT ITEM Hand Model/Left Hand" is set to begin sales on the Makuake crowdfunding platform starting September 15, 2023, at 12:00 PM Japan time. The left-hand version will also be available in both white and gray. Interested collectors should keep an eye out for the latest updates on that day.
