Issued by TAMASHII NATIONS, the collectible toy division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Company, the finished model series 『METAL ROBOT魂』, which combines metallic texture painting and an alloy frame, has announced its latest product from "Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans", the 「Gundam Barbatos (1st~4th Form)」, scheduled for release in June 2024.
The ASW-G-08 Gundam Barbatos is the mobile suit piloted by protagonist Mikazuki Augus in "Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans". It was originally one of 72 Gundam Frame units built 300 years ago during the "Calamity War" to combat Mobile Armors (MAs). Although its armor has deteriorated after centuries of storage, the frame's performance remains perfectly intact, featuring flexible articulation, high mobility, and high versatility, excelling in close-quarters melee combat. Its responsiveness is further enhanced when linked with Mikazuki's Alaya-Vijnana System, allowing for intuitive control of the mobile suit's posture directly through the brain, enabling explosive movements and power even under gravity.
Following the releases of Lupus Rex and Lupus, the 「METAL ROBOT魂 Gundam Barbatos (1st~4th Form)」, which traces its lineage back, has been thoroughly supervised by its original mechanical designer, Naohiro Washio. Its exterior meticulously pursues the cool forms seen in the series, enhanced with a weighty metallic paint finish and more realistic body markings. The articulated frame is constructed with a large number of alloy parts, which are also electroplated to express the material differences of the Gundam frame.
The articulated sections were designed by sculptor Ryu Sakano, thoroughly reproducing the hydraulic cylinder linkage mechanisms in multiple areas such as the waist and knees, achieving an extremely flexible range of motion that allows for dynamic poses like a wild leap attack with the mace. Furthermore, the accessories include a rich array of armaments such as Graze shoulder armor, a battle axe, claw, katana, and a 300mm smoothbore gun, enabling Gundam Barbatos to be re-equipped into its 1st to 4th forms. Among these, the impressively sized 300mm smoothbore gun and the auxiliary arms hidden within the backpack feature transformation mechanisms that allow for deployment and storage without needing to swap parts.
