Issued by TAMASHII NATIONS, the collector's toy division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Company, the "S.H.Figuarts (Shinkocchou Seihou)" series, which sculpts from the skeletal structure to give tokusatsu heroes their original cool appearance and natural articulation, today officially announced its 100th product based on "Kamen Rider": "Kamen Rider 1 / Takeshi Hongo" from "Kamen Rider THE NEXT," slated for release in December 2024.
Between 2005 and 2007, Toei released two films, "Kamen Rider THE FIRST" and "Kamen Rider THE NEXT," to carry on the story of the immensely popular original "Kamen Rider" from nearly 35 years prior. This series was not merely a remake of the "Kamen Rider" televised back then, but rather an adaptation of Shotaro Ishinomori's manga, depicting Takeshi Hongo and Hayato Ichimonji's fight against the Shocker organization, and their subsequent encounter with Shiro Kazami (V3), all in a mysterious and eerie style true to the original work.
One of the reasons why the "Kamen Rider THE NEXT" version of "Kamen Rider 1 / Takeshi Hongo" was chosen as the 100th Kamen Rider product in the Shinkocchou Seihou line is that this character was the very first S.H.Figuarts product released in 2008, now re-created using the Shinkocchou Seihou method over a decade later.
The "S.H.Figuarts (Shinkocchou Seihou) Kamen Rider 1 / Takeshi Hongo (Kamen Rider THE NEXT)" boasts a physique and design that more closely resembles the suit from the film. It not only meticulously sculpts the full-body wrinkles of the special reinforced suit but also utilizes clear parts and fabric to represent the compound eyes and red scarf, respectively. Digital printing is used on the side of the helmet to reproduce the scars left after battles with Shocker.
The overall articulation is designed with motorcycle riding in mind. In addition to utilizing modern new joint parts for an excellent range of motion, the abdominal and belt-area parts are made of soft material, allowing for significant waist bending and a more natural riding posture. Furthermore, the product will include a head sculpt of "Takeshi Hongo" as portrayed by Masaya Kikawada at the time, combining 3D scanning and skeletal sculpting techniques to perfectly recreate his facial features and contours from that era.
The motorcycle ridden by Kamen Rider 1 in the film, "Cyclone 1 (Kamen Rider THE NEXT)," has also been confirmed for commercialization, with detailed product information to be announced at a later date.
