When it comes to the world of "American comics," teeming with superheroes, what's the first thing that comes to mind for you, fellow toy collectors?
In 1939, "Timely Comics," founded by Martin Goodman, was established in Manhattan, New York. It was renamed in 1961, and the company we all know and love, "Marvel," officially came into being. With iconic characters like "Captain America," "Spider-Man," the "Fantastic Four," the "Hulk," and the "X-Men," Marvel built its fame and ushered in a brilliant and dazzling golden age.
Through 85 years of evolution and change, Marvel has become a major representative of American entertainment culture, fostering many legendary writers and artists. Beyond its origins in the comic book industry, Marvel has successfully expanded its reach across various multimedia platforms, from animation, games, and TV series to the cinematic universe. Its all-encompassing, thrilling stories, paired with charismatic superheroes and villains, have not only captivated fans but have also successfully embedded these legendary tales and classic characters into the public consciousness. It's no exaggeration to call it a cherished collective memory of this generation.
To celebrate this momentous 85-year milestone, the internationally renowned toy giant "Hasbro" is joining the festivities with its "Marvel Legends" series of action figures! At a 1/12 scale with extensive articulation throughout the body, along with source-accurate head sculpts and meticulous detailing, the 6-inch Marvel Legends action figures boast not only highly-finished designs but also exceptional playability. Whether you love superheroes or supervillains, there's a place for them in the Marvel Legends line, making it the ultimate choice for collectors! This unboxing report will first introduce four figures from this 85th Anniversary wave. Without further ado, let's get right into it!
▼Here are the stars of today's unboxing, including two boxed figures, one on a retro cardback, and one two-pack.
▼Aside from the cardback packaging, the sides of the boxes feature character portraits for easy identification and collection.
▼"Wolverine," the most widely known member of the X-Men, was born with a mutant healing factor. After having his skeleton bonded with Adamantium, he gained indestructible claws, turning him into a nearly immortal living weapon.
▼This figure's design is based on the fan-favorite "Astonishing X-Men" version, featuring the classic yellow and blue color scheme. The body utilizes the new, aesthetically pleasing pinless joint design, so let's sing "Bye Bye Bye" ♫ to the exposed joint pins we used to see at the elbows and knees!
▼The masked head sculpt. Note that the exposed areas like the mouth and cheeks are created using photo-real printing, recreating Wolverine's stubble and his fierce, teeth-gritting expression.
▼Additionally, an unmasked head sculpt of Logan is included, with his facial features also rendered using photo-real printing.
▼The distinct arm hair is brought to life through a combination of sculpted detail and printing.
▼Articulation check! Marvel Legends never disappoints. By making good use of all the joints, you can achieve a wide variety of cool poses, both dynamic and static!
▼The set of hands this time is quite generous, including an open right palm (top image) and a pointing left hand (bottom image), allowing you to express a wider range of emotions and actions!
▼The shoulders also feature butterfly joints, making it easy to bring both arms forward for that classic six-claw crossover pose.
▼As far as comic book versions go, this Wolverine not only has an accurate design, but its body and articulation are a testament to the pinnacle of Marvel Legends engineering. It's an absolute must-have for any Wolverine fan!
▼"Superior Spider-Man," a new identity created when the consciousness of Doctor Octopus—Otto Octavius—took over Peter Parker's body. Otto intended to become a "superior" Spider-Man, a higher being than the original. However, his methods gradually spiraled out of control, taking "Spider-Man" down a completely different path. With the return of Peter's consciousness, Doctor Octopus ultimately realized he lacked Peter's goodness and sense of responsibility, finally erasing his own consciousness and returning the body to its rightful owner.
▼This figure and its suit are based on the design from the 2023 comic relaunch. And of course, the four articulated spider-arms, which are practically a standard feature, are included!
▼The body also utilizes the new design, making it the perfect combination of aesthetics and high articulation.
▼This head sculpt, with the towering skyscrapers of New York reflected in the eyes, is a major highlight of this Superior Spider-Man. It's also the first time this presentation style has been used in the Marvel Legends series. What do you all think?
▼In addition to the special head sculpt, a standard white-eyed version is also included for you to choose from!
▼He carries two pairs of mechanical spider-arms on his back, each equipped with four points of articulation for adjustment.
▼Besides the articulated arms, a backpack with the arms in their retracted state is thoughtfully included for swapping.
▼Get the balance right, adjust the joints, and you'll have no problem creating all sorts of poses using the mechanical arms!
▼Three pairs of differently styled hands are included. Mix and match as you please!
▼Do you like this Superior Spider-Man with his interesting concept and distinct style?
▼"Venom," born after the Symbiote, rejected by Spider-Man, bonded with journalist Eddie Brock. Their mutual resentment and hatred for Peter Parker were a perfect match, and the union of the Symbiote and Eddie as Venom became one of Spider-Man's most formidable and persistent hunters. This figure comes on a cardback, a retro style beloved by veteran collectors.
▼The figure uses a more muscular build, recreating the massive physique that fans associate with Venom.
▼An included head sculpt features a long, writhing tongue for a fantastic visual effect.
▼A head with his signature toothy grin is also provided for you to swap out. The paint application on the teeth and gums this time is truly on point!
▼"We are Venom!" The upper torso uses a new body mold, which features updated chest and waist articulation, as well as butterfly joints in the shoulders.
▼Venom is just wild and cool. Posing him is always a joy.
▼Swapping to the long-tongue head sculpt enhances the sense of dynamic speed in poses!
▼Marvel fans who love Venom, you definitely don't want to miss this one!
▼"Iron Fist & Luke Cage," Danny Rand, a kung fu master proficient in "chi," and the street-level hero Power Man, Luke Cage, met as adversaries but soon developed a mutual respect. The two eventually teamed up to form the "Heroes for Hire," becoming a superhero duo with perfect chemistry.
▼Iron Fist is featured in his memorable comic book costume. The flowing headband, sash, high collar, and the chest emblem are all faithfully recreated!
▼The first head sculpt has a serious expression, with the lips colored using photo-real printing.
▼The second head sculpt is perfect for capturing the moment of channeling chi to unleash a move.
▼Similar to previous versions, this figure comes with a whopping four pairs of different hands. That's right, that's how you do a martial arts character!
▼The body is also the latest version—not only is it pinless, but the articulation is superb. Whatever punch you want to throw, you can!
▼By the way, the headband on the back of both head sculpts is a separate piece, so you can rotate it to adjust its direction freely!
▼You can also attach the included effect parts to recreate the chi energy surrounding his fists!
▼This figure is definitely the best Iron Fist in the Marvel Legends line to date. You must get it and experience it for yourself!
▼Next up is Luke Cage. The figure recreates his classic yellow shirt look from the comics. The muscular build is a perfect match for his superhuman durability!
▼The serious head sculpt. The sculpt and the printed paintwork complement each other perfectly, creating a palpable static tension.
▼The roaring head sculpt. It's worth noting that the mouth piece is a separate part, so there are no worries about paint bleed!
▼The brass knuckles on his hands have "LUKE" and "CAGE" in raised relief. A left and a right punch from these would definitely leave an impression on someone's face...
▼The belt buckle also has "CAGE" printed on it, and the texture of the jeans is rendered with incredible detail.
▼It's time for action again! That's right, by utilizing all the joints, you can achieve any cool pose you can imagine!
▼"Ever seen a fist this big? If not... allow me to demonstrate! (POW)"
▼Heroes for Hire, assemble!
▼This two-pack gives you everything you want at once. It's truly a must-have set!
▼And that concludes the first part of our unboxing report for the Marvel Legends "Marvel 85th Anniversary" series. In our next installment, we'll bring you more exciting figures from this wave. Stay tuned, and be sure to follow us!
