Bandai Spirits' "MOVIE MONSTER SERIES" soft vinyl toy line today (29th) announced a striking new release: "Super Godzilla" (超ゴジラ)! Pre-orders are currently open on PREMIUM BANDAI, with shipping scheduled to begin in March 2025, at a suggested retail price of 4,620 Japanese Yen.
Super Godzilla originates from the 1993 video game of the same name, "Super Godzilla," where it serves as a powered-up form that Godzilla can transform into during the latter stages of the game. In the game's lore, it is a mutated product resulting from a chemical reaction between Godzilla and the energy-storing cells of King Ghidorah. In this state, Super Godzilla possesses immense power, but will revert to its original Godzilla form once its energy is depleted during battles with enemy monsters. Super Godzilla not only boasts formidable attack and defense capabilities but can also fire beams from its mouth and abdomen, and even launch energy spheres from its tail. This cool and powerful form is truly a phantom Godzilla known only to discerning kaiju fans!
Super Godzilla's design later served as the original basis for SpaceGodzilla, which first appeared in the 1994 film "Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla." This soft vinyl toy, however, takes the opposite approach, partially reusing the same sculpt as the "MOVIE MONSTER SERIES SpaceGodzilla," but with a newly designed upper body. It faithfully recreates the game's highly impactful muscular lines and prominent shoulder spikes. The blue body and beautifully lustrous metallic green accents are truly spectacular, making this an excellent three-dimensional rendition of the memorable in-game appearance, years in the making.
