Beyond the previously revealed unproduced HBO spin-off "A Song of Ice and Fire: Braavos"—a project author George R.R. Martin had discussed—recent reports from The Hollywood Reporter indicate that Warner Bros. Discovery is now considering developing a film adaptation of the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series, potentially bringing the epic medieval fantasy world to the big screen.

According to the report, Warner Bros. Discovery is quietly developing at least one film set within George R.R. Martin's "Game of Thrones" universe. However, as the project is still in its very early stages, no director, screenwriter, or cast members have been announced. Media outlets emphasize that Warner appears quite keen on the idea of bringing Westeros to cinemas.
Notably, "Game of Thrones" showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss had initially discussed concluding the epic series with a film trilogy, rather than the final season that aired in 2019. George R.R. Martin himself was reportedly very interested in this concept. Unfortunately, HBO firmly opposed the proposal, and the idea ultimately did not come to fruition.

This potential strategy could signal a shift in Warner Bros. Discovery's approach to the "A Song of Ice and Fire" intellectual property. Given the critical acclaim for "The Penguin," a spin-off series from "The Batman," alongside HBO's upcoming "Dune" spin-off series "Dune: Prophecy" (originally titled "Dune: The Sisterhood"), and the impending "Harry Potter" reboot series, a change in attitude from Warner Bros. and HBO would not be surprising.
