The long-gestating Disney+ series "Nova," which has been in quiet development at Marvel Studios for years, is reportedly undergoing a significant creative change. According to an exclusive report from Deadline, Ed Bernero, formerly the showrunner for "Criminal Minds," has joined the project as its new writer and showrunner. He replaces Sabir Pirzada, who was initially attached to write the series. When Pirzada first boarded the project, it was unclear whether "Nova" would be a feature film or a streaming series; it is now confirmed to be a Disney+ series.

The news of Bernero's appointment comes just a day after prominent entertainment reporter Daniel Richtman revealed on his Patreon page that the primary antagonist for the "Nova" series would be Annihilus.
In Marvel Comics, Annihilus has frequently served as the ruler of the Negative Zone. Wielding his Cosmic Control Rod, he possesses the ability to slow his aging process and manipulate energy and matter. He is a recurring foe of the Fantastic Four and has also clashed with Nova in the comics.
The Nova mantle has been held by multiple characters throughout the comic universe. However, the upcoming series will center on the Richard Rider iteration of Nova. Richard, an ordinary high school student, was unexpectedly chosen by Rhomann Dey, a member of the intergalactic military organization known as the Nova Corps. He inherited Dey's superhuman powers, transforming him into a new hero dedicated to protecting Earth and the cosmos.
