The long-gestating new live-action "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe" film today announced a wave of four villainous cast members. Sam C. Wilson will portray Mer-Man, Hafthor Bjornsson is set as Beast Man, Kojo Attah joins as Tri-Klops, and Jared Leto will take on the role of the primary antagonist, Skeletor.

While news of Leto playing Skeletor had been circulating for several months, it was only officially confirmed by Deadline today.

This iteration of "He-Man" has faced a tumultuous development, cycling through at least three studios. It began with Sony Pictures, then moved to Netflix, and has now landed with Amazon and MGM Studios. The original directing duo, Aaron Nee and Adam Nee of "The Lost City," stepped down, with Travis Knight, director of the "Transformers" spin-off "Bumblebee," taking over. Kyle Allen, initially cast as He-Man, was eventually replaced by Nicholas Galitzine (pictured below) in the lead role.

Previously confirmed cast members for the film include Alison Brie as another villain, Evil-Lyn; Idris Elba as Man-At-Arms; and Camila Mendes as Teela. The latest draft of the screenplay was penned by Chris Butler, director of the Laika animated film "Missing Link." Laika Studios was co-founded by Knight, and Butler also wrote the screenplay for Knight's "Kubo and and the Two Strings." The new live-action "He-Man" film is slated for a global release on June 5, 2026.
