Nintendo Switch 2 to Finally Fix Joy-Con Drift? Leaker Points to New Tech Solution

Since its 2017 debut, the dreaded Joy-Con drift has been a persistent thorn in every Nintendo Switch owner's side. Despite Nintendo's repeated attempts to tweak the Joy-Con's internal design, the phantom inputs kept popping up, even on the newer Switch OLED. But now, whispers of new tech for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 suggest this long-standing headache might finally be a thing of the past.

The latest buzz comes courtesy of Reddit leaker "NextHandheld," who recently dropped a bombshell of Switch 2 details in the Nintendo Switch 2 community, even sharing a supposed side-profile shot of the console.

Initially, the claims raised some eyebrows – after all, the internet is rife with fake leaks. However, NextHandheld's credibility has soared as several of their previous predictions have proven accurate.

According to this insider, the Switch 2's Joy-Cons are set to feature "Hall effect" joysticks. This game-changing tech could finally put an end to the notorious stick drift that's plagued players for years.

So, what's the magic behind Hall effect? Unlike traditional potentiometer designs, which rely on physical contact and are prone to wear-and-tear (hello, drift!), Hall effect sensors use magnets and electrical conductors to measure joystick position. This contactless design fundamentally eliminates the risk of drift.

Beyond the tech upgrade, NextHandheld also dished on some hardware design tweaks: think beefier Joy-Cons, visually distinctive colored bases for the sticks, and a fresh Switch 2 logo. They even claim to have attended an internal hardware teardown demo, witnessing these changes firsthand. Of course, Nintendo is playing it cool, remaining tight-lipped on all these rumors.

If the Switch 2 truly embraces Hall effect joystick technology, it won't just give players a more durable and reliable control experience; it could also totally rebuild faith in Nintendo's hardware design.
