Following the collaboration between the popular toy series "Masters of the Universe" from renowned American toy manufacturer Mattel and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, it has recently been announced that they will once again team up with another major classic IP, "ThunderCats," for a dream collaboration: the "Masters of the Universe x ThunderCats" (MOTU x ThunderCats) 5.5-inch action figure series. In this article, we'll give all you toy enthusiasts a sneak peek at three of the first wave's revealed characters—the "Lion-O," "Cheetarah," and "Cat-Man" 5.5-inch action figures. Each figure has a suggested retail price of US$19.99 and is expected to be released in June 2025!
Masters of the Universe was a toy line launched by Mattel in 1982. In 1983, to further boost sales, Filmation was commissioned to adapt and produce an animated series of the same name. "ThunderCats," on the other hand, was a television animation co-produced by American and Japanese studios, broadcast in the United States from 1985 to 1986, with LJN producing its merchandise later. Both IPs are highly representative works of the 80s, and the toy products released back then still have numerous collectors and enthusiasts in the secondary market today.
This collaboration appears in the "Origins" series, which reimagines the 80s "Masters of the Universe" toy line with new specifications. It merges the designs and characteristics of both ThunderCats and Masters of the Universe, creating highly distinctive and interesting characters! For the ThunderCats portion, Lion-O and Cheetarah are re-envisioned with Masters of the Universe aesthetics, sculpted with their muscular physiques under the unique proportions of the Origins series. Accessories include Lion-O's Sword of Omens and Claw Shield, and Cheetarah's Bo Staff. Both figures also come with interchangeable hair pieces, allowing for highly dynamic poses!

And what this editor finds most interesting this time is definitely "Cat-Man"! He-Man's most loyal companion, Battle Cat, is anthropomorphized and transformed into a Masters of the Universe-style warrior, with the tiger theme perfectly echoing that of ThunderCats! His armor is designed based on Battle Cat's deep red armor after transformation, and painted to restore the classic yellow-green fur pattern. Displaying him alongside Lion-O and Cheetarah will undoubtedly showcase the powerful charm of this collaboration!
Cat-Man
This time, they will also simultaneously release "Skell-Ra," which combines the classic villains of both IPs. It's incredibly exciting!
