Last September, Deadline exclusively reported that Edward Berger, director of the 2022 "All Quiet on the Western Front," was being eyed to take over directing duties for the official fourth installment in the "Ocean's Eleven" franchise, replacing Steven Soderbergh, who helmed the original trilogy. Today, American film critic and journalist Jeff Sneider further added that David Leitch (pictured below), director of "The Fall Guy," is also in talks for the job.

Sneider believes there's significant uncertainty surrounding both Berger and Leitch taking the helm. Berger reportedly has many scripts to choose from, while Leitch has a high probability of declining, having previously turned down a rumored offer last year to direct "Jurassic World: Rebirth."

However, Leitch boasts existing connections with the franchise's core talent. Matt Damon made a cameo in Leitch's "Deadpool 2," and Brad Pitt starred in Leitch's "Bullet Train." Leitch also served as Pitt's stunt double for many years, suggesting that with familiar collaborators, he might be more inclined to accept the directing role.

In addition to "Ocean's 4," Warner Bros. is also developing an "Oceans" prequel film, to be directed by Jay Roach, known for the "Austin Powers" trilogy. That film was set in 2022 to star "Barbie" co-stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling.
