Last March, reports surfaced that "Suicide Squad" director David Ayer (pictured right below) was set to helm a wilderness survival film titled "Heart of the Beast" for Paramount Pictures. Ayer was also slated to produce alongside "La La Land" director Damien Chazelle and his producer wife, Olivia Hamilton. Now, the project has finally found its leading man.

Entertainment outlet Deadline recently reported that Brad Pitt has signed on to star in "Heart of the Beast." Pitt will also join as a co-producer through his production company, Plan B Entertainment. This marks a reunion for Pitt with both Ayer and Chazelle; Pitt previously starred in Ayer's war drama "Fury" and was the lead in Chazelle's most recent directorial effort, "Babylon."

The screenplay for "Heart of the Beast" is penned by music video director Cameron Alexander. It tells the story of a former Navy SEAL and his retired service dog who, after an accident deep in the Alaskan wilderness, must find a way back to civilization. Ayer's filmography often features characters in military and law enforcement roles, and this film will continue that thematic tradition.
