Two years after the low-budget sci-fi thriller "M3GAN" became a global sensation, grossing $180 million worldwide, its sequel "M3GAN 2.0" is slated to hit theaters this summer. While Universal has yet to release a trailer or any official plot information, unconfirmed details have reportedly leaked online. According to these reports, the sequel's premise will share some striking similarities with "Terminator 2: Judgment Day."

"M3GAN 2.0" recently held a secret test screening, and sources who attended described the film as a mix of "Terminator 2" and "Upgrade." The leak suggests M3GAN will have less screen time but will pivot to a heroic role, facing off against AM3LIA, a new robot designed as a military weapon and played by Ivanna Sakhno (pictured above). The threat posed by the film's mastermind is said to escalate into a global crisis.

The source emphasized that "M3GAN 2.0" is a completely different type of film, evolving almost entirely into an action movie. Furthermore, the viral dance sequences that made M3GAN an internet phenomenon will reportedly be expanded upon, with the killer doll even performing a full-length song. It sounds like the sequel is seriously upping the ante.

"M3GAN 2.0" sees the return of director Gerard Johnstone and screenwriter Akela Cooper. The original cast is also back, including Violet McGraw, Allison Williams, Amie Donald (M3GAN's physical performer), and Jenna Davis (the voice of M3GAN). New additions to the cast include Jemaine Clement and Timm Sharp. The film is scheduled for a North American release on June 27.
