Sony Pictures recently announced several changes to its film release schedule. In superhero news, an untitled live-action Marvel film, originally slated for June 27 this year, has been removed from the calendar. Sony did not specify which Marvel character the film would focus on, but it was widely speculated to be part of the "Spider-Man" supporting character universe and had reportedly been stalled in development for some time.

Following the critical and box office failures of "Madame Web" and "Kraven the Hunter," Sony has reportedly been forced to temporarily halt and re-evaluate its strategy for its "Spider-Man" Universe. Consequently, it's unlikely this withdrawn Marvel film will resume production anytime soon, and its permanent cancellation, along with the rest of the supporting character universe, would not be surprising.

On the horror front, the sixth installment of the "Insidious" franchise, previously set for August 29 this year, has been pushed back to August 21, 2026. Its original slot will now be filled by "Caught Stealing," an action film directed by Darren Aronofsky and starring Austin Butler.

"Caught Stealing" is an adaptation of Charlie Huston's novel of the same name, with Huston also penning the screenplay. Set in 1990s New York, the story follows former baseball player Hank Thompson, who finds himself unwillingly entangled in a brutal underground criminal battle for survival. "Caught Stealing" is one of three novels in the Hank Thompson series, and Sony reportedly intends to develop it into a film franchise.

The cast for "Caught Stealing" is robust, featuring rapper Bad Bunny, Griffin Dunne, Vincent D’Onofrio, Zoë Kravitz, Liev Schreiber, Matt Smith, and Regina King, among others.
