The model kit series "MODEROID", launched by Japan's MECHA SMILE brand, has announced a new product from the classic anime "Maten Senki," which celebrates its 30th anniversary: the "Makuu Senki Susanoo Second Form", slated for release in July 2025.
Although the TV anime "Maten Senki," which aired in 1994, belonged to the same project and adopted similar Japanese mythology themes as the tokusatsu film "Yamato Takeru" released in the same year, the two works had completely different worldviews and plot developments.
The anime's story depicts a 25th-century scenario where some Earthlings, using space migration ships, arrived at a new world called "Izumo Star," coexisting with the native Izumo people and establishing peaceful villages. However, 12 years later, the Tsukuyomi Army, aiming to revive Orochi and destroy the entire universe, attacked the village. Amidst the chaos, protagonist Yamato Takeru accidentally discovered the long-sealed Makuu Senki Susanoo within a cave. Although he piloted Susanoo to repel the Tsukuyomi Army, he was driven out of the village due to Susanoo's temporary rampage. To thwart Tsukuyomi's ambitions, Yamato Takeru embarked on a journey to collect the Three Sacred Treasures and the Star Souls, piloting Susanoo.
The "MODEROID Makuu Senki Susanoo Second Form" kit is composed of multi-color molded parts, clear parts, and pre-painted parts. Once assembled, it stands approximately 16 cm tall, faithfully recreating the Second Form from the series, which emerges from its cocoon with magnificent golden armor.
Its entire body features flexible articulation designs, including pull-out joints. The chest armor can also be swapped between two types of parts: one "prioritizing sculpted proportions" and another "prioritizing articulation," with the latter exposing the shoulder joints to enhance the range of motion. Accessories include various interchangeable hand parts, as well as weapons such as the Kusanagi Sword, Yata no Kagami, and gauntlet fists, allowing for the recreation of combat poses.
