Since its debut in 1979, the "Mobile Suit Gundam" series has spawned a vast array of works, spanning over 45 years and cementing its status as one of Japan's most iconic mecha franchises with immense popularity and recognition.
Rumors have swirled for a while about a new live-action Hollywood "Mobile Suit Gundam" film in collaboration with Legendary Pictures, Inc. Today (February 5), Bandai Namco Group officially announced on its website the signing of an agreement with Legendary Pictures to co-produce the first-ever live-action Hollywood movie for the "Mobile Suit Gundam" series, tentatively titled "GUNDAM."

The film is slated for a global theatrical release, with Jim Mickle, creator of the Netflix series "Sweet Tooth: A Boy with Antlers," set to direct and write. Production is scheduled to kick off in early 2025.
This news was also shared on SUNRISE's official website. Bandai Namco further announced the establishment of a new North American subsidiary, "Bandai Namco Filmworks America, LLC (BNFA)," effective April 1, 2025. This move aims to expand the Gundam brand's influence in the North American market. BNFA will operate under Bandai Namco Holdings USA Inc., the Bandai Namco Group's North American umbrella company, focusing on developing overseas licensing business.
